Beyond The Godfather: The Concert Music of Nino Rota
Italian composer Nino Rota is perhaps best known for his unforgettable Academy Award-winning score for Francis Ford Coppola’s cinematic masterpiece The Godfather. In March, join DC-based chamber orchestra, PostClassical Ensemble (PCE), and guest curator, Dr. Claudia Gorbman, for a concert paying tribute to this giant of film music with selections from Rota’s scores for Il Gattopardo, Romeo and Juliet, and his collaborations with Federico Fellini including La Dolce Vita, Amarcord, and La Strada. Yet, Rota’s legacy extends far beyond his 150 film scores. Interspersed among these selections will be highlights from Rota’s prolific output of concert works such as the spirited Concerto for Strings, music from the ballet Le Moliére imaginaire, the vividly colorful variations of his Nonetto, and the virtuosic showpiece for French horn and orchestra, Castel del Monte, performed by Christy Klenke. PCE Music Director Angel Gil-Ordóñez conducts.
