Education
Susan Witmer Wolffe (she/her) is the Manager of Tour Experiences in the Education Department. She has 30 years of experience working in education departments in art museums.
She earned her MA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her BA from Vanderbilt University. As Manager of Tour Experiences, Susan oversees the in-gallery instruction of pre-K through 12th grade students, as well as university and adult audiences. She was curator of education at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia and the Weatherspoon Art Museum in Greensboro, NC. Prior to the BMA, Susan worked in the Education Department at the National Gallery of Art as the manager of its multiple-visit program for students in District of Columbia Public Schools.
Susan has co-created programs and classes for students attending the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She most recently co-authored articles in Medical Education Online on understanding the role of the art museum in teaching clinical-level medical students and supporting human flourishing. She has written peer-reviewed articles for Art Education: Journal of the National Art Education Association as well as numerous teacher resources, including the BMA teacher guides to the American and African collections. Susan presents at conferences on various topics in museum education both in-state and nationally.
